Inkjet Printer History

In recent years, inkjet printing has undergone great changes from technology and application to the market, and it has developed rapidly. Many printing companies have taken a look at the mature technology and fiery emerging applications of inkjet printing. They have invested in inkjet printing, and even shifted their focus to inkjet printing.

So, what level of application of inkjet printing in China has reached? How do companies see the future development of inkjet printing? What are the plans? The user survey of the inkjet printing system organized by Corprint Media's “Digital Printing” magazine aims to understand the practical application of inkjet printing in China and the knowledge and mentality of practitioners in inkjet printing, thus promoting Chinese inkjet printing. The application and development.

I. Survey Sample Enterprise Analysis


The survey was conducted using a random sampling method. In March 2006, a questionnaire survey of users of inkjet printing systems was issued to 200 printing companies in China. As of the press release, 64 valid questionnaires were received.

In terms of the corporate nature of the sample companies, private enterprises accounted for 59.4% of the 64 sample companies, share-holding enterprises accounted for 18.8%, and 12.5% of foreign-funded enterprises and 9.3% of state-owned enterprises.

Among the main businesses of the sample companies, there are 12 companies that choose “traditional printing”, accounting for 18.8% of the total number of samples, and 24 companies that choose “digital printing” account for 37.5%, choosing “both” There are 28 companies, accounting for 43.7%.

In the survey, 59.4% and 43.8% of the companies respectively filled out the sales and profits of the company's inkjet printing business in 2005. The average sales volume of these companies in the inkjet printing business in 2005 was 4.71 million yuan, and the average profit was 1.05 million yuan.

Second, equipment and production

1. More than 70% of the sample companies have 1-3 inkjet printing equipment, and over 50% of sample companies have an investment of 10-50 million yuan for inkjet equipment.


In this survey, 56 sample companies from 64 sample companies filled out their own inkjet equipment ownership. Among them, enterprises with 1-3 inkjet printing equipment accounted for an absolute majority, with a ratio of 71.5%; 21.4% of the sample companies had 4-10 inkjet printing equipment; and companies with more than 10 sets accounted for only 7.1%.

In terms of the amount of investment in inkjet printing equipment, 50 sample companies have completed this. The survey showed that 20% of the companies invested 1-10 million yuan, and 52% of the companies invested 10-50 million yuan, accounting for the largest proportion; 16% of the company's investment amounted to 5-100 million yuan, and 8 % and 4% of the company's investment are respectively 100-500 million and 500-1000 million. The average investment of these 50 companies' inkjet equipment is 1.008 million yuan. From this, it can be seen that the amount of investment in ink-jet printing equipment varies from company to company, but overall, nearly 90% of sample companies have invested less than 1 million yuan.

In addition, Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Kodak, and Canon’s products account for most of the brands of inkjet printing equipment owned by sample companies.

2. Inkjet printing has a wide range of applications. Digital proofing, art reproduction, and indoor photowriting are the three areas of application in this survey.


In the design of this survey questionnaire, the application fields of inkjet printing were divided into "video", "outdoor advertising", "exhibition display", "map", "digital proofing", "label", "certificate card", " There are a total of 11 items including "Art Copy", "Indoor Photo", "Engineering Picture" and "Other". Among them, the application of digital proofing is the most common. More than 70% of sample companies have digital proofing business. The high-end applications that have been favored by many people in the industry recently—art reproductions—are also areas that 40% of sample companies have entered. In addition, the indoor photo and engineering drawings are also selected by more than 30% of sample companies.

3. The overall operating rate of inkjet printing equipment is not high.


Compared with the prosperity of the inkjet printing application market and the enthusiasm of companies to purchase equipment, the operating rate of ink-jet printing equipment is not as good as people think. Among them, companies with a start-up rate of around 50% accounted for the largest share of 46.4%. In addition, 14.3% of the sample companies have inkjet printing equipment operating rates below 30%.

Third, future development and brand awareness

1. The future development of digital proofing, art reproduction, exhibition display and other application areas is promising


In terms of the "application fields of ink-jet printing that are promising in the next few years," the sample companies' current main business areas are in line with the phenomenon. More than 30% of sample companies have chosen digital proofing, art reproduction, and exhibitions. In recent years, the sudden emergence of imagery has also received a support rate of 27.6%. Indoor photo and outdoor advertising as the traditional application of inkjet printing is still promising for nearly a quarter of sample companies.

In order to avoid blind investment, what factors should be emphasized when investing in inkjet printing is also a problem in this investigation. “The source of market business” received the most extensive recognition, with 75% of the sample companies choosing this, and this is also the only factor in several factors that are recognized by more than half of the sample companies. 10.7% of the sample companies chose to “supplemental existing businesses”. It can be seen that, with the fierce competition, providing customers with comprehensive products and services, the threshold for investment is not high, and the proportion of companies that choose “adequate funds” is the smallest. .

2. Technology and price become the most important factor for companies to purchase inkjet printing equipment


In this survey, when asked “When choosing an inkjet printing system, the factors that you value,” after calculation, the order of priority is “technology”, “price”, “speed”, and “function”. "", "brand", "flexibility", "other". It can be seen that advanced technology is the key to market development. At the same time, price is also a very important factor in the current Chinese market.

3. Brand awareness has become a trend


Although the “brand” factor ranked only in the fifth place in the “choice of the order of factors you consider when choosing an ink jet printing system”, 90.6% of the sample companies have knowledge of the brands of inkjet printing equipment. Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Kodak Encad, Roland, Canon, Kodak Wanyin, Wu Teng and other brands are recognized and favored by most sample companies.

Conclusion: According to the survey results, inkjet printing has been rapidly developed in recent years, and the application field has also been very effective. There have been hot areas such as digital proofing and art reproduction; nearly 90% of companies have applied inkjet technology. The amount of investment in printing equipment is less than one million yuan; awareness of the future market development of inkjet printing is increasingly rational and mature. At the same time, we also found that there are some problems in the inkjet printing market, such as the lack of operating rate of the equipment and the concentration of applications. Despite this, we believe that after recognizing these issues, people in the industry will work together to promote the development of inkjet printing in China.
